Kemp police officer Damon Smith has been arrested on two counts of abuse of official capacity.   Patricia Laney with the Kaufman County Sheriff’s office says he’s accused of stealing property from the Kemp police department in exchange for drugs.  He is also accused with providing known drug dealers “protection” for meth which he then sold.
She says Smith, who’s now suspended, worked the night shift and had been on the force for about three years.  She adds he was nabbed in an undercover operation, and she expects further charges.
