Abbott Says Bill Unionizes State Government
Attorney General Greg Abbott jumps into the fight over a federal bill allowing government workers to have more union power. Government workers in Texas would have new collective bargaining power which would mean better union representation for those workers, under the proposed Public Employer-Employee Cooperation Act. Attorney General Greg Abbott writes Senator John Cornyn saying there’s a problem with that idea. “This is a way that the federal government is trying to force the state to unionize and we believe that this violates the 10th amendment, the 11th amendment and the Commerce Clause.” Abbott says this isn’t so much a political thing with him, rather it’s a state’s rights issue. He says this is another example of the federal government looking to impose more mandates on the state and local governments.
