Will predictions that casino gambling won’t help the state’s current budget problems make it a harder sell with lawmakers? Representative Edmund Kuempel says casino gambling will help with the current budget problems. “We are not going to raise four or five billion dollars off gaming but it will certainly set precedent.”  Meaning it will help future budgets by bringing in billions.  Kuempel says while it is true that the full impact won’t be felt on the current shortfall facing the state because it takes time to build casinos he says there are some things that can be done quickly and it will have some impact if lawmakers and voters approve the idea.  “We’ll raise a little money for 2011 and 2012 but certainly for 2013, the next biennium, it will be in place and working and it will be a tremendous help for Texas in later years.”
