A new group hopes to grow the number of Hispanic Republicans. The Hispanic Republicans of Texas is out to raise money and recruit Hispanic Republican candidates. “Close to 40 percent of the state is Hispanic, about 50 percent of the growth in this state comes from Hispanics but we also saw that the representative of those running for office is very very small.” Co-Founder of the group Juan Hernandez says it will also provide training for Hispanic candidates. Of course a top statewide Hispanic candidate lost in the Republican primary this year which Hernandez says is one of the reasons to have a group like his. Democrats were quick to criticize saying this was just an attempt to sweet talk Hispanics that the party has alienated with its policies and platforms.
