The uncle of a Dallas-area mother suspected of strangling her two children, including a 5-year-old-son who died, says the woman’s toddler is on life support and is not expected to live.
Wasimul Haque says that his niece had been depressed since moving to a new apartment in Irving. Haque, who also lives in Irving, tells The Dallas Morning News, “It looks like she had mental problems. I don’t understand why she did it.”
Police planned to charge 30-year-old Saiqa Akhter with capital murder Wednesday. A police spokesman says the woman called 911 Monday and said she had done “something terrible” to her children.
The older child was pronounced dead at a hospital. His
2-year-old sister is listed in critical condition.
Haque said the family is trying to get Akhter an attorney.
