18 year old Ben Sater had 2 operations at Scottish Rite Hospital when he was 3 and 10 for trigger-finger..a condition that could lock up your joints. When he noticed his Mom didn’t pay for the operations he asked why. When she said it was because they don’t charge for their service, and rely on donations, Ben decided to do something about it. So…being an avid golfer… Ben started Kid Swing in 2003 and began his fundraising efforts with golf tournaments for kids throughout the Metroplex. His initial goal…was just to raise some money. But then he set his sites higher. He decided a few years back to shoot for raising $1 million.
He planned to reach his goal before he went off to college..which he did… yesterday at the Kid Swing tournament in McKinney. It even surprised him, because he didn’t see the check until he turned it around handed it to the head of Scottish Rite Hospital. So even though Ben is off to Austin College this fall…his legacy lives on as Kid Swing continues to raise money for Scottish Rite Hospital.
