Judge Says Mom Must Watch Abused Daughter's Video-Taped Interview

The judge said the mother of an abused little girl had to sit still while a video of the child was shown in a Dallas courtroom yesterday.  Prosecutors have long said Abneris Santiago did nothing to stop the abuse of her three  children who were kept locked in a Dallas motel bathroom and systematically starved nearly to death. Santiago’s boyfriend is already serving 99 years for his part.  Yesterday, Santiago asked the judge to excuse her from the courtroom because she might throw up if she had to watch a two-hour interview with her eleven-year-old daughter who was giving all the grim details of the abuse.  But the judge said no, she’d have to stay and watch.  The judge did permit her to keep a wastepaper basket nearby in case she had to throw up.  She didn’t need it.
