Should corporations be held more accountable for workers injuries?  A state house committee considers that in the wake of the gulf oil spill.  Last session the House passed new liability rules for corporations being responsible for contract worker injuries but that bill died in the Senate.  Houston Attorney John Eddie Williams says it’s time for the House to try again.  He was involved in lawsuits against BP over its Texas City refinery explosion that killed 15 workers.  “They would always tell you we’re safe.  They would talk the talk but they didn’t walk the walk.”  Representative Sylvester Turner says people are all for liability limits until the accident happens on their doorstep and then they find out they can’t feed their family on what workers compensation alone pays them.
