Thieves have gone into business finding the social security numbers of children then selling them to other thieves. Dallas Police Lieutenant Mike Levi says they see it more and more: children who aren’t even in school with bad credit ratings. He says thieves may forge checks, open credit cards, even counterfeit IDs to match the social security number. He warns parents to get copies of your child’s credit report. If there’s something there, he suggests you talk to the reporting agencies to get it fixed, then call police to try to find the thief.
