State Will Fight for Fed Ed Dollars
An amendment on a bill that has passed the US Senate could cost Texas almost one billion dollars in federal education dollars. The amendment required the Governor to promise that the state will continue to spend the same or more on education for the next three years, something Lt. Governor David Dewhurst says is unconstitutional. The US House is supposed to vote on this bill next Tuesday and if it passes “we’re going to file suit and I would be delighted to be a named plaintiff.” Dewhurst however is urging all Texas US Representative to work to strip that language out of the bill before that vote happens.
