The Other Guys stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as 2 cops. Not the Super Cops we’re used to seeing in the movies, but flunky desk cops who take a lot of ribbing from the other guys on the force.  Yes, this movie is funny. I know we’re all a little tired of Will Ferrell. At one point, the guy sitting next to me out of nowhere said, “I hate Will Ferrell.” But even he was laughing most of the way through the movie. And Mark Wahlberg is funny, because he’s playing an even angrier version of his character from The Departed. There are a ton of great secondary characters in this movie too, like Michael Keaton. He plays the police captain who also works at Bed, Bath & Beyond on the side. The Other Guys does get over the top silly, several times, but I had such a great time that I’m still giving it a B+.
Also in theaters this week is The Middle Men, starring Luke Wilson as the man who brought adult entertainment to the internet.  This movie comes off a little like Goodfellas, complete with narration and awesome soundtrack, but not as good. It’s a little sloppy in the details AND it spent a LOT of time convincing me that Luke Wilson’s character was a good-guy, but I’m not buying it. The Middle Men is fast-paced & quick witted though, and it’s great to see Luke Wilson in a meaty role again, so I’m giving it a B. This IS a movie about adult entertainment though, and it does get a little ADULT. Just think twice before taking your Mother-in Law.

At the Movies, I’m Julie Fisk for News Radio 1080 KRLD.
