City To Transfer Obligations to New Rangers Owners

With the sale of the Texas Rangers pending, the city of Arlington is beginning the legal process to change the name on the Ballpark in Arlington’s lease and to transfer the outstanding construction debt to the new owners.  A special meeting is scheduled for today so the City Council can authorize new agreements in the name of Pittsburgh sports attorney Chuck Greenburg and Hall-of-Famer Nolan Ryan who acquired the right to buy the team from Tom Hicks in a federal bankruptcy court auction last week.  City Attorney Jay Doegey expects it all to be pretty much routine, pointing out that the city went through this once before when Hicks bought the team in 1998.
