Police Cracking Down On Drunk Drivers
With the Labor Day weekend fast approaching north Texas law enforcement gears up for a crackdown on drunk drivers. The “Drink, Drive, Go To Jail” campaign is applauded by Julie Jones of Fort Worth. She survived a 2003 accident when a drunk driver hit her car, killing her husband. She says the message is clear, drinking and driving is no accident, it’s a poor and sometimes deadly choice. Texas leads the nation in drunk driving fatalities. No refusal weekends have become the standard over holiday weekends, but this year, some police departments won’t even bother with the breathalyzer test. Irving Police Officer Steve Burris says they won’t even use the breathalyzer but draw blood voluntarily or by warrant.
