Could the sales tax holiday weekend become a victim of budget cuts? State Senator Rodney Ellis is worried that his colleagues might look at eliminating the sales tax holiday as a way to increase state revenue and close the budget gap. Ellis says that really wouldn’t make sense since the holiday actually makes money. “Generally in August throughout most of the previous 11 seasons sales tax revenues have gone up for one simple reason, retailers bring out more items and more people are showing up to shop until they drop.” In fact Ellis would like to see more days added and would like to see computers added to the list of tax exempt items. The tax holiday is this coming weekend.
