The Cost of Illegal Immigration Could Go Higher
Illegal immigration is costing Texas counties quite a bit but it could get a lot worse. If the border was closed and illegal immigrants already in this country were arrested State Representative Rene Olivera says not only would the economy be hurt but counties would go broke trying to house all the prisoners. “It is going to be an incredible and possibly back breaking strain on your taxpayers to house those people.” Another concern is the cost of health care for the undocumented. Denton County Judge Mary Horn says her county is no longer covering those costs. Before that policy change in June those costs were around 4 and a half percent of that counties health care budget.
