Federal agents in El Paso have found more than a half million dollars hidden in the spare tire of a truck headed into Mexico.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says its agents were searching cars headed into Mexico from El Paso Wednesday morning when they found $530,170 hidden in the spare tire of a heavy-duty pickup truck.
The driver, 40-year-old Francisco Castaneda Castillo of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, just across the Rio Grande from El Paso, was arrested on a charge of currency smuggling for not reporting that he had more than $10,000 in cash.
Jail records do not show if he has a lawyer.
