A day after a stranger picked up a kindergarten student from Maple Lawn Elementary School, officials implement a new policy. Effective immediately, all parents have to show I.D. and sign on the dotted line before taking their child home. Maple Lawn Elementary’s safety committee will review the policy for releasing students in all grades, and a district spokesman says each school can come up with their own safety procedures.
On Tuesday in Dallas, an incident involving a 5 year-old boy prompted the change after a 40 year-old man says he inadvertently picked up the wrong student after a teacher released the boy to him at Maple Lawn Elementary. An Amber Alert was about to be issued, when the boy was found safe.
