More than a dozen freshmen began classes in Phoenix at Grand Canyon University, the alma mater of Sydney Browning who was one of the seven people murdered at Wedgwood Baptistby a deranged gunman at Wedgwood Baptist on September 15th in 1999.  Browning was a school teacher and directed the children’s choir at Wedgwood.  Her devotion to children led college administrators to promise full tuition to a group of under-privileged second-graders in Phoenix.  In the intervening years, many of those students scattered and when the university realized they were due to graduate from high school, an effort was launched to track them down.  Of those who could be found, 15 are enrolled this Fall and began class yesterday.  Another plans to start next semester and at least one more will enroll next year.
