DPD Commander Suspended In Escort Flap
One of the brass at Dallas police headquarters has been suspended for a couple days because of remarks he made in the midst of the funeral escort controversy involving the procession of police chief David Brown’s son. An outside investigator’s report quotes Deputy Chief Julian Bernal as saying the motorcycle escort was ordered out of respect for Chief Brown even though Brown’s adult son died in a shootout during which he gunned down a Lancaster officer. The decision ignited a firestorm of outrage from Dallas police rank-and-file left fuming that officers were ordered to show respect for a cop-killer’s funeral procession. When the city manager read the reports, she put Bernal on a two-day, unpaid suspension.
