Despite a record number of students taking the test, SAT scores in Texas hold their own. Texas had the largest growth rate in the number of SAT test takers in the country this year. The TEA’s Debbie Ratcliffe says that can cause scores to go down, but in this case, the average scores stayed flat and in some student groups scores went up, some as many as five points in each test category. Ratcliffe says the state should be a leader again next year in the number of students taking the test. That is because the state paid for some juniors to take the test and might have the money to do that again next year.
