Man With No Arms Throws First-Pitch
A California man with no arms got a huge hand from fans at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington last night. Tom Willis was born with no arms, but has made a life out of proving he can do just about whatever he sets his mind to, like driving a car or operating a camera. Now, he’s on a quest to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums. With last night’s appearance before the Rangers-Angels game, he’s one-third of the way there. Willis is a video producer and motivational speaker when he’s not at the ballpark. To throw a baseball, Willis grips it with his toes and lets it fly with his right leg. Last night, from atop the mound at Rangers Ballpark, he tossed a strike to Rangers coach Johnny Narron behind the plate with Rangers mascot Captain acting as umpire. The stop in Arlington makes ten ballparks where Willis has thrown out the first pitch. It’s his last one scheduled for this season but he plans to be back on the road next year.
