A Dallas County grand jury has indicted three now-fired Dallas police officers, a month after a chase, crash, and videotaped beating of a motorcyclist. Video, from several patrol mounted dashboard cameras, shows Andrew Collins as he is tongue-lashed by officers and then struck repeatedly with fists and a club. Because Collins is black and the three officers are white or Hispanic, the incident generated charges of racism. The indictments include charges like Aggravated Assault by a Public Servant, Official Oppression, Tampering with a Government Record and Tampering with Evidence. In a statement released Thursday, Dallas Police Chief Brown said “…the indictments issued by the Grand Jury today in the case of former Dallas Police Officers is another step in the process of bringing this incident to a conclusion.”
