A Fort Worth man left with grotesque facial injuries after an electrical fire has beaten the odds and made it onto a waiting list for a revolutionary facial transplant.  A formal announcement is planned for today, but Dallas Wiens says he has  already been alerted to his new status. There were many obstacles, including the fact that his insurance has run out, and the question of whether he should be dis-qualified because of his blindness.  He lost his eyes in the catastrophic accident that caused massive burns on his face and head.  Twice, Wiens has traveled to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston where the nation’s second facial transplant was completed last year. Ultimately, doctors decided that blindness would not be a factor in the decision and, after the finances were worked out, they agreed to add Wiens to the waiting list.
