Denton (Sports Network) – North Texas has reportedly found its new football coach in former Iowa State mentor Dan McCarney.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, McCarney is set to be named as the Mean Green’s new coach on Tuesday.

McCarney spent 12 years as the head coach at Iowa State from 1995 through 2006 and guided the Cyclones to a record of 56-85 with five bowl appearances. He stepped down after the 2006 campaign, then joined the staff at South Florida for 2007 and has been an assistant at Florida since 2008.

North Texas fired Todd Dodge after a 1-6 start to the 2010 season and interim coach Mike Canales posted a 2-3 mark in the team’s final five games.

Dodge was 6-37 in three-plus seasons with the Mean Green.
