IRVING (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys coach Jason Garrett is very careful to hold his cards close to the vest on who will play on Sundays, but if you are looking for a break from Marion Barber for at least a week, this may be it.

Barber did not practice today because of a calf strain, and Garrett says he is “day-to-day” on evaluation.  That means we may see more of Tashard Choice which is the flavor of the week topic for the media.   And before we get all bent out of shape over the Choice possibilities, consider that he is averaging 2.7 yards per carry.  That is about a half yard BEHIND Barber’s 3.1 ypc.

Garrett said earlier in the week that Choice is the third team guy and that is his role right now.  At least from a numbers standpoint, Choice is going to need to show more, but also needs a shot to do it.  The good news for Choice fans?  He has only touched it 14 times, meaning if he can bust one,  that average per carry will go way up.

Dez Bryant had his hand slapped as the team took the field for practice today.  He stopped to apparently debate about the Big 12 Championship game this weekend for a little too long when Garrett hollered…”88 get out here, let’s go.”

Keith Brooking did not practice because of an ankle problem.  He is also listed as day-to-day.
