FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A Fort Worth teenager is dead and two others are in critical condition following a lunchtime accident off of their high school campus.

Fort Worth ISD spokesman Clint Bond says the three students are from Trimble Tech High School.  The students were on their lunch break off campus.

Fort Worth Police spokesman Sgt. Pedro Criado says that three vehicles being driven by students were racing northbound along 8th Avenue at a high rate of speed when one car lost control, spun out, and went backwards before being struck by oncoming vehicles.

The teens are all 16-years old.  One died at the scene.  The teen, who has not been identified, is described as an 11th grader who was on the baseball team.

The students in the other cars stopped and were interviewed by police. It’s not determined if they’ll face charges.  Two people who both
hit the car were also interviewed after being transported to the hospital.

Student at Trimble Tech were notified Friday afternoon of the accident, and grief counselors will be on campus Monday.  A performance of Godspell already scheduled for Friday Night will be dedicated in honor of the student.

The accident is still under investigation.
