WACO (AP) – The Baylor Bears will play their first bowl game in 16 seasons as they’ve accepted an invitation to play Illinois of the Big Ten in the Texas Bowl in Houston on Dec. 29.

The Bears announced their decision Sunday to play in the game at Reliant Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.

The bowl invitation comes after the Bears finished with a 7-5 record overall and 4-4 in Big 12 play. The Fighting Illini have a 6-6 record overall and 4-4 in Big Ten play.

Baylor is 8-8 all-time in bowls. The Bears’ last bowl appearance was in the 1994 Alamo Bowl, in which they lost to Washington State 20-3.
