DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) – The Cowboys players cleaned out their lockers this morning, waiting to find out who their head coach will be and, longer term, whether they will play football next season.

Jason Witten liked what he saw in the 5-3 turnaround under Jason Garrett.  “I know a lot of us in the room are pulling for him.  I’ve played here long enough to know that he (Jerry Jones) is going to make sure he gives us every chance to win, so we’ll see, said Witten.

Fellow Pro Bowler Mat McBriar says he will chill in California for a little while before heading back here and then off to Honolulu for the Pro Bowl game.  On the potential lockout that looms beginning March 3rd. “I like to think I understand the issues and what the Players Association is negotiating for.  You just have to put trust in the NFLPA and the NFL and that they will look out for the game first.  If I’m not playing football, I’d probably go back to school, finish my degree and do something in the banking sector…do a little day trading, but I’m not very good at it,”  says McBriar.

Stephen McGee will get married on the 5th of March and he plans to spend some time with his Texas A&M Aggies football team this week.  “I’m going to go to practice one day this week and go to the game on Friday.”   McGee also will tie the knot on March 5th, a couple of days after the possible lockout.  “Tony Romo out did me on the engagement front.  That rock for Candace was about four or five times the size of the one I got.”   McGee also says his learning curve was huge over the last two weeks…”The amount of stuff I learned is amazing.  That was really a huge experience getting to play six quarters.  Even three days of working with the first unit was huge.”

The Cowboys do not have a scheduled press conference today.  Yet.  Jason Garrett is expected to speak with the media at some point.  It appears it is a simple formality before he is named head coach as early as today, or seemingly by the end of the week at the latest.
