PARADISE VALLEY, AZ (Sports Network) – Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig has ruled out the possibility of expanding the playoffs or the use of instant replay in 2011.

Selig told on Tuesday, just prior to the first owners’ and general managers’ meetings of the new year, that there isn’t sufficient time to make any changes.

For the first time since 2008, the MLB season is scheduled to kick off prior to April, with a March 31 start date. Selig said that’s too soon to make alterations for the upcoming season, but also said there have been and will be constructive conversations about both issues, which will be discussed this week.

There seemed to be a consensus among both camps in November that two more teams should be added to the wild-card round. However, the length of the first round and how to fits it into the postseason schedule is still up in the air.
