Bush To Mark Start Of Gulf War At Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION (AP) – Former President George H.W. Bush and top officials from his administration are reuniting to mark the 20th anniversary of the start of the Gulf War.
The reunion and roundtable discussion is set for Thursday at Texas A&M University, where Bush’s presidential library is located.
Bush and key figures including former Vice President Dan Quayle, then-Defense Secretary Dick Cheney and former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Colin Powell are expected. The emir of Kuwait is also scheduled to attend.
The war was prompted by Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in August 1990. A U.S.-led coalition drove Iraqi forces out of Kuwait six months later.
Bush said this week he has no regrets about his administration’s handling of the war, including the decision pull American forces out even as Saddam Hussein retained power.
