JFK Tribute To Be Built In Fort Worth

FORT WORTH (AP) – Fort Worth plans a downtown memorial to President John F. Kennedy about the half day he spent in the city before his fateful trip to Dallas.

Plans were announced Tuesday. The JFK Tribute Committee will sponsor a fundraising drive.

Kennedy and the first lady flew to Fort Worth the evening of Nov. 21, 1963. They spent the night at the Hotel Texas, then JFK the next morning spoke to a crowd outside the hotel.

President Kennedy went on to address the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, after about 12 hours in Fort Worth, then flew to Dallas, where JFK was fatally shot during a motorcade.

Dallas has a memorial plaza and other historic sites and museums to mark the Nov. 22, 1963, assassination.

What a nice thing to do.

I think that is wonderful. He gave us all hope in a time of uncertainty and tried to take our country into a more peaceful and prosperous direction. I hope however you truly wish to make it a tribute unlike in Dallas where they don’t seem to desire to keep it up. Even when I saw it in disrepair and emailed the mayor there was no response and no interest. In Dallas it is as if it is just something someone put there and no one wants to take responsibility to keep it up.

Why ? He was a womanizing son of a illegal bootlegger who cut a back room deal with the Teamster Mob to get him the votes needed to get elected. Shacked up with a German Spy during W W 2. He gave Cuba to the Communist by turning coward and lying to the liberators at the Bay of Pigs. He got the U S into Viet Nam and dam near started W W 3 with the Russians over mistake that he made in Cuba. He is and will always be an overrated dead president. If anything put memorial to Oswald. He’s the one that did us all a favor.

Excuse me, but isn’t Fort Worth experiencing a budget deficit? Do we really need this right now?

    1. Brian Matthews says:

@C Bauer: this is NOT a city funded project. Money for this project is penny of this is coming from private donations and other sources.

    2. Brian Matthews says:

To clarify, here is where the money is coming from. So don’t get your panties in a bunch.

The Hilton hotel has contributed $50,000 and another $50,000 was raised in the community to pay for the $200,000 statue, created by Lawrence Ludtke. It is still in New Mexico, where it was cast. About $500,000 has been raised privately; another $500,000 is needed to complete the tribute, and $500,000 more to establish a maintenance fund. Organizers want to raise the remaining money in time to begin construction on May 29, which would have been Kennedy’s 94th birthday.

Hemroidious – Don’t forget that he also pulled our missiles out of Turkey as part of the deal to placate Kruschev over Cuba. The only one that backed down was Kennedy.

    1. Hemroidious says:

Elmer, you are right. He and his little brother put their missiles in Marylin Monroe. Where did that get her? We are lucky that we didn’t get see how really incompetent he was. Who knows he may have made Jimmy Carter look good.
