Kunkle Officially Files For Mayor’s Race

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The first major candidate to enter the race for mayor has formally filed campaign papers today.

Last year at this time David Kunkle was police chief.   This time next year he hopes to be mayor.  On Monday,  he formally threw his hat into the ring today here at city hall.

Kunkle says he is the right man for the job and that he’s quote, “in it to win it.”  The retired police chief filed Monday in what could be considered an attempt to discourage other lesser known names from running.

While crime may have been his focus in his previous job, Kunkle says he will focus his attention on neighborhood concerns if elected.

Primarily, Kunkle wants residents to get more out of their tax dollars.    Kunkle says he would also make downtown development a priority.   His campaign treasurer is the husband of former Dallas Mayor Laura Miller.

Using his uniform for campaign pictures? When he was chief he fired people for doing that because it was against the General Orders. He can’t win… the ghetto won’t vote for him because he is police… business won’t endorse him because he has not business experience and Northern Dallas won’t support him because he spent so much time coddling Southern Dallas when he was chief. Sure he be a known brand, but what he is know for is what will prevent him from winning.

I don’t think he will win either. Having anything related to Laura Miller on your campaign staff is a liability with the voters. Being the former head of the Po-Po will hurt him with the blacks. The illegals don’t vote and the legal Hispanics won’t like the the fact that he’s not pandering to them constantly.

Why would Business want to hire some guy with no business experience? Sure he’ll throw out that he managed the PD and the budget was X but that is nothing like running a business. Several Enlisted Soldiers who work in Supply deal with Millions of Dollars of Equipment daily but they aren’t businessmen and are merely cogs in the wheel.

He has better training and experience in leadership than anyone else who is expected to run! He is ethical and responsible. Everybody that I know who has ever know or worked for the man sepakes well of him. His wife, Sarah Dodd is a great asset and can be of help to him with the media, where her background lies. I think he’ll be hard to beat, once the public gets to know him.
