FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A water main break a block from Interstate 30 near Alta Mere froze traffic and sent water gushing through the pavement and into the air Friday.
The Fort Worth Water and Fire departments responded to the 16-inch break, which happened at about 2 p.m.
“It turns out to be a sixteen inch main break. Right now there are no reports of any property damage. It will take about 30 minutes before this is shut down” says Hilda Zuniga with the Fort Worth Water Department.
“Crews will do a complete assessment of any possible damages, and we’ll keep everyone informed,” she told KRLD.
Water could be seen gushing 50 feet into the air and a partially-submerged car was stuck on the side of Alta Mere just south of the Calmont intersection. The driver was able to safely escape.
Zuniga advised residents to stay away from the area and “let crews do what they need to do.”
