AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM) – As currently proposed, the state budget won’t fund growth at state universities and Higher Education Commissioner Raymund Peredes says that’s a problem.
“If institutions have to absorb the operations cuts we’ve already proposed and then you don’t fund enrollment growth then students are going to have a difficult time succeeding.”
Peredes says the state has been trying to get more students that wouldn’t traditionally go to college into the classroom and it’s succeeded, but those students are lower income, come from lower performing high schools and need more academic help to succeed, help that won’t be there under this budget.
