ERCOT Held To The Fire By State Senate

AUSTIN (KRLD) – Texas State Senators got the chance to give power providers an earful on this months rolling blackouts and the events that let to them in a committee meeting Tuesday morning.

Horseshoe Bay Republican Senator Troy Frasier pretty much summed it up. “This is unacceptable. I know we’ve identified the problem, now I’m looking for how do we make sure this won’t happen again.”

La Porte Republican Senator Mike Jackson echoed what a lot of senators said, the power shortage and rolling blackouts caused by freezing weather should have been prevented and there should have been better preparation for the freeze.

ERCOT officials say their real problem was letting people know what was about to happen and they have taken steps to correct the communications problems.

Electric operators say they were disappointed by the outages but know more now which plants are at risk and what steps to take

ERCOT says steps have been taken to improve communications and give more notice when these power emergencies occur. Power providers say this event has helped them know which plants are vulnerable to cold weather problems and how to better prepare them in the future.
