DALLAS (AP) – Dallas Love Field is getting more than $3 million for a snow and ice removal system just weeks after bone-chilling winter storms led to canceled flights.

The Dallas City Council on Wednesday approved spending the money. Funding for the project at Love Field, which is home to Southwest Airlines, comes from passenger charges.

Officials say a design for the system has been in the works since 2009 and should be completed next year.

City Manager Mary Suhm says the current snow and ice removal system is operating from an inadequate facility.
