DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Friday turned into a financial windfall for some North Texans.  Texas handed over unclaimed property that had been sitting in Austin, in some cases for years.

Today, representatives of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts were in Dallas to help residents determine if they had unclaimed property.

In one case, a local man discovered he had $34,435.75 waiting for him.

Other  unclaimed property was a little more modest, ranging from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars.

The state estimates in Dallas County alone there is $218 million in the unclaimed property fund.

Texas is currently holding more than $2.2 billion in cash and other valuables for their rightful owners.
