DALLAS (AP) - Parkland Memorial Hospital has changed the way families are asked to approve autopsies for loved ones in order to provide more information.
The charity hospital acknowledged Friday that new consent forms went into effect this month. The forms more clearly inform families that organs are removed during an autopsy and can be returned before a funeral is held.
In December, a family was outraged when organs were taken from their deceased daughter during an autopsy and never returned. The family said the 27-year-old woman wanted to be buried “whole.”
The new form states that families may request than body parts be returned at the time of the autopsy.
