Man Dies In Kaufman Balcony Collapse

KAUFMAN (AP) – A North Texas man has died in the collapse of his apartment balcony.

Investigators say an engineer will examine all balconies at the complex in Kaufman, about 30 miles southeast of Dallas.

The accident Saturday killed 37-year-old Jose Martinez-Hernandez. Officials say the victim fell nearly 12 feet.

WFAA-TV reports residents say crews had been working on several balconies. Leasing officials did not immediately comment.

I know Jose personally.. It’s so sad what has happened. It really ticks me off that the Kaufman city inspector wants to inspect the apartments and close some off to residents. Only after a tragic accident happens and a life is lost.. Where was the inspector before this?? The city is suppose to inspect the apartments when a new tenant has electricity turned on.. So aparently someone is not doing their job.. Im a resident of Kaufman. All I ever see the inspector do.. Is take up yard sale signs and write tickets for junk on your porch. Also , I believe a city is supposed to issue a permit for the repairs being done… I believe not only is the apartment owners responsible; but also the city of Kaufman.

I use to live there… we moved because they never fixed anything in those apartments… not even our air condition
