FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A Texas Christian University student and former football player has died off campus, the Fort Worth university said Saturday,

Hayden Bowers, a student from Austin, died at what the university called an ‘off campus location’ according to an email sent to students and faculty Saturday afternoon.  The email did not disclose how Bowers died.

Bowers was a former member of the TCU Horned Frogs football team.  The school’s athletic website listed Bowers as a Fullback.

TCU Athletic Media Relations Director Mark Cohen says Bowers was “a walk-on who was with us for a year or so and then left the team about a year ago.”

In the email, University Vice Chancellor Don Mills described Bowers as a popular student.  “Hayden was well-liked by his many friends at TCU.  He will be missed dearly.”

The university said counselors are being made available for students.  “I know we all hold the Bowers family in our thoughts and prayers,” said Mills.
