DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Some people are born dancers, but others… not so much. Those who were born with two left feet typically try to avoid any type of dancing, however, there is now a solution here in North Texas that aims to give your dance moves a makeover.
Let a professional at Power House of Dance in Dallas teach you some basic dance steps, and get you back in the right groove. “People only have two or three moves, but their hands change, and that’s what gets you through the song,” explained hip-hop dance instructor Gino Johnson. “Put those hands up here and boom, boom, boom!”
So, Johnson is taking his love of the boom boom boom to a room room room of not-so-skilled steppers. “My wife likes to salsa,” said dance student Hank Poorman, “but the only thing that I can come close to is chips and salsa. I need a lot of help.”
“You want to take your hands here and make a circle in the ceiling with both fists,” instructed Johnson.
“You take your finger and you dive and pop out your chest – boom! Just like that,” Johnson continued.
With a little guidance, a few simple steps and some moves that shake more than just the hips, Johnson has turned the dance disabled into skilled movers and shakers. “I’ve never felt comfortable on the dance floor until now,” said dance student Traci Lively. “I’m ready to get out there and dance!”
Even Poorman said that he felt “a little more confident” after the dance makeover class. “Like I’m not going to embarrass my wife now,” he added.
Interested in getting your own dance makeover? Johnson will be offering classes all-day Saturday, April 9, as a part of Visions: The Women’s Expo at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas.
