GRAPEVINE (AP) – Spirit Airlines begins service at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport with the arrival of the first Spirit Airbus jet from Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The Fort Lauderdale-based low-fare carrier begins flights at DFW to and from Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas on Thursday. The two-flights-per-day service will begin with a morning news conference at Spirit’s gate in DFW Terminal E.

Commencement of service comes shortly after Dallas-based low-fare powerhouse Southwest Airlines closed its merger with low-fare rival AirTran Airways.
