FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Students at Godley High School spent Thursday learning an important lesson about the dangers of drinking and driving, and taking part in a simulated car crash.

The trauma team is real, and the hospital ER was real too.  The students were  taken to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, but this was only an exercise.

Nurse Mary Ann Contreras has the trauma teams ready when the mock patients arrived at Harris’ ER.

The students are taking part in ‘Shattered Dreams,’ a simulated wreck at the school and an ambulance ride to the hospital for several mock patients, including Cale Brown.  In the drill, he didn’t make it.

His mother Connie watched the simulated trauma care and was there as Dr. Micahel Hickey breaks the news.  She begins to cry, overcome by what is only a mock exercise.

Cale says he’ll take a valuable message back to his classmates.  He says it’s a valuable lesson about the dangers of drinking and driving, plus texting and driving.
