DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) Leading off my “Jock Itch” for Today: Back in 2005, a guy by the name of Eric Torpy made an unusual request to a judgment in Oklahoma County: I want my 30-year sentence into a 33-year sentence to honor….Larry Bird.
Yes, you read that correctly. This guy wanted to actually UP his sentence to pay homage.
Well, a few years into his little tribute sentence, he realized that maybe it wasn’t such a good idea after all!
YA THINK??
He told The Boston Globe: Now that I have to do that time, yes I do, (regret). I kind of wished that I had 30 instead of 33. Recently, I’ve wised up. That three is a big deal you know? Three years matters.”
He just happens to be 33 years old and is in prison for armed robbery and two counts of shooting with intent to kill. He won’t be parole eligible until 2033 and says, get this, that it’s the D.A.’s fault for playing along with his request, actually calling HIM out for being unprofessional!
He adds: “Why feed into my game? I’m a criminal?”
If it makes you feel any better, the dude plays basketball in prison, where he claims to be able to hit 6-of-10 3 point jumpers.
Larry would be SO proud, sir. So proud. www.aol.sportingnews.com
