FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM/AP) – Bus riders in Fort Worth who wear sagging pants have the choice of pulling them up before boarding or finding another way to get around the city.

The Fort Worth Transportation Authority’s updated dress code lets bus drivers turn away passengers whose pants sag below the waist.

“Doesn’t matter what color you are, what race you are, what size you are, everybody, myself included, everybody needs to pull their pants up, it’s the right thing to do,” said Tony Johnson Executive Vice President for The T. “If your grandmother came out with her pants around her legs she can’t ride the bus.”

Joan Hunter, a spokeswoman for the system known as The T, says it’s about respecting everyone who chooses to ride city buses.”It’s not like they have to go home. They can just pull it up. It’s to be respectful of other riders.”

Posters are being placed on buses and billboards to let riders know that saggy pants are not acceptable.

The no-saggy pants campaign began in August 2008, but the T recently made an administrative change to its dress code giving bus drivers authority to deny boarding to violators, Hunter said.

The policy change took effect May 12, and that day drivers asked about 50 riders to pull up their pants before boarding, according to Hunter. All complied, she said.

“They’ll mess with our freedom. Pretty soon they’re going to ban dreadlocks, too,” said Cory Shelby, a tattoo artist who rides city buses.

Shelby, 29, recently was told to pull up his pants before boarding, even though he said his black cargo shorts were not drooping enough to be distasteful.

“They told me I had to pull up my pants,” he said, “And my boxers weren’t even showing.”

City Councilman Frank Moss has said the saggy-pants look hurts the ability of young people to land jobs.

“This shows we have taken the overall concept of pulling them up to a new level,” Moss said during a recent council meeting. “There are some real policies in place to say, if you don’t pull `em up, you can’t ride.”

Don’t these idiots realize that “style” started in the prison system, and it meant that your backdoor was open for business? Morons. Let me also point out, and go ahead and call me a racist, you can’t complain about not getting work and “the man” and Whitey keeping you down when you wear clown attire such as that.

    1. GayBoy says:

If the guy in that pic is over 18, I’ll answer that “ad”! Nice onions!

    2. Moe says:

If Dallas was San Francisco or a prison city, these guys, and some girls, would fit in.

    3. NiteNurse says:

I lived through the 60s and 70s and remember wearing my hip hugger jeans so low my butt crack was visable. SO what? Are we all getting so old that we can’t tolerate youthful fashion? NOW GET OUT OF MY YARD!!!!

      1. darrell says:

there’s a big difference between youthful fashion and all out nastyness. apparently your yard belongs with the nasty side of this arguement!

  2. Ms. M says:

Obviously ignorance is bliss. These morons don’t even realize just how stupid they look wearing their pants under their a$$es. They look even stupider when walking or running and one hand is holding onto a cell phone and the other is holding onto their pants. Oy vey!

    1. C Bauer says:

Oy vey indeed, and might I also add – OY GEVALT! I like your Yiddish! BTW – I’m listening to Mark Davis right now, and it sounds like he’s about to defend these idiots’ “right” to wear these clothes.

  3. Chuck says:

While I don’t have a problem with this I wonder how long it will be some one brings a law suit against them.

  4. johnsole says:

It must be tricky to manuever through the day with only one useful hand because the other is holding up the pants or constantly adjusting them. Not to mention the inabiility to walk normally or run if necessary! Truly “hand”icapped.

    1. 88 says:

I agree. No wonder they get caught during armed robberies! One hand is busy pulling their pants up! LOL. Well, hello dere, ocifer, I seez dat my pants be fallin’ down over here!

  5. callen says:

I really don’t understand what keeps their trousers from falling to their knees. Can anyone explain?

    1. Hmmm says:

It’s their huge “stuff” in the front that stops it from falling further.

      1. JU JU BEEZ says:

  6. farid says:

Please, I did they did the “right” thing by banning it. If you sag your pants in public it makes you look pretty dumb. Who will want to hire a person when they see him sagging his pants down to his knees. That person will look really dumb and won’t ever get a job.

    1. maggiemae says:

Ummm, most of these morons don’t actually have or WANT a job.

  7. cookie says:

They look really stupid with their underwear showing. They think they look cool, but really it’s disrepectful & very stupid showing your

  8. idiocracy says:

Morons, what about my right to sit on the bus and not look at your ugly arse. . Pull your pants up or don’t ride the bus.

    1. C Bauer says:

Love that handle. Idiocracy isn’t a comedy film – it’s a PROPHECY! 500 years into the future? Yeah. Try 50!

      1. Nonya says:

50 years may be a little long. Maybe 20 at max. Remember, Brawndo’s got what plants crave.

    2. C Bauer says:

I thought I might have been too generous with 50. I was going to say 5, but 20 sounds more realistic.

I’m the Secretary of State… brought to you by Carl’s Jr.

  9. cstokes says:

Thank God! First North Park Mall now Fort Worth come on Dallas!!!! Yes HH these morons don’t realize shagggin’ started in the prison system as a signal for “open for business”. And Cory Shelby is an idiot please do not mix shaggin’ with African Americans or African Culture there is nothing culture about showing your boxes, its just plain ignorant and ghetto! MLK, Malcom X, etc. I know are turning over in their graves to hear that nonsense!

  10. Clayslinger says:

    It’s about time. nuf said!

  11. darrell says:

this should be a statewide policy in public. its degrading to have such low self esteem to the person and the community which they are a part of.
however, i dont ask them to pull up their pants. i just simply inform them that difference between them and i is that my “junk” is big enough to hold my pants up to start with.

    1. NiteNurse says:

Dude…a statewide policy??? We got bigger fish to fry.

      1. darrell says:

nite, do you have issues with maintaining sanitation, moral fiber, decadense, total blatant vulgarity for the sake of being “cool”? maybe thats why your a nitenurse. do you even know the originations of this “style” of dress? probably not. like those that wear it, ignorance is rampant.

    2. TheNiteNurse says:

The last time I checked this was the land of the free, not a Taliban run country. AND aren’t you glad there are night nurses when you get sick in the middle of the night?

      1. darrell says:

living in the “land of the free” does not give anyone the freedom to expose others to indecent or unsanitary conditions just because they are sloven, nasty, and ignorant to the rest of humanity. since you seem to be such a die hard liberal, i guess it should be perfectly fine for myself, about your age, to date and mess around with your underage daughter or grandaughter. after all, its the land of the free right. do what we want as long and the ones doing it agree, correct.

  12. Alex B says:

I just have to say that they should ban the sagging pants for health reasons. The only thing between their bare bottom and the bus seat is their dirty underwear!!! Do you know how well they clean themselves?????? I surely don’1!!!!

  13. daisy says:

If youdont want to see a persons ass then dont look i guarantee riderss wont get off the bus and catch the next one cuause i sure as heck wont. ghettoness&dirtiness is everywhere if you cant stand to look get your own transportation and stop using public transportation.saggin is disgusting but it wont stop riders like i said.

    1. Alex B says:

When you write clearly, then you can respond. You don’t make a lick of sense. What do you mean “If you don’t want to see a person’s a**, then don’t look” That’s absurd! They want to be noticed; that’s why they walk around that way.

  14. Russ D says:

There should not even be a discussion about this trend. There is a law about indecent exposure. Perhaps the police should hand out a ticket to the ofender.

  15. skyyyyyyy says:

Thank you Fort Worth. GET ON BOARD DALLAS.! I’d rather see your face, not your butt! I have 2 sons, one 35 yrs one 18 yrs and they will both tell you: ” that mess is not acceptable at home or away.”

  16. hugo says:

I hope Dallas follow this, and people with radio on der phone playing loud on bus or train need to go too.

  17. NiteNurse says:

So city bus drivers have to be dress code enforcers now??? I am sure they have seen MUCH more offensive outfits board their buses then some saggy pants. Please allow these saggy pant fellows on the buses so I don’t have to watch them attempt to walk around while I’m driving. As long as their private parts are covered I don’t have a problem.

  18. NiteNurse says:

News update, I just watched a FW police officer waste his precious time telling a guy to pull his pants up for 20 minutes. IS THIS what we want to waste our time on? Leave these guys alone!

  19. YRofTexas says:

@ NiteNurse…don’t you have some patients to attend to..rather than posting remarks that broadcast your naivety? I know that if I were a patient under your watch, and I needed my pain meds, a trip to the potty, my dressings changed, or something to eat…I most certainly would NOT appreciate you sitting at a computer!

Kindly remember that your patients come FIRST, then your silly waste of your employer’s wages. I’m thankful you weren’t in charge of my husband’s needs when he was in the hospital. That’s why I stayed overnight every night, during his 2 month rehab. I caught nurses all the time ignoring his requests for help, not making notes of measurements (urine flow), not washing or rinsing out the urinals between uses, not flushing the toilet, throwing his personal underwear in the trash (caught that!), being short with him…the list went on & on. But while I was there, the nurses and their ‘tech’ aids stood at attention and did a much better job, although I had to follow up behind them and Finish Their Job.
One nurse even gave my husband a SHOT OF INSULIN, and he is NOT diabetic! Talk about NOT DOING THEIR JOB?!!!

So get off the computer, Nitey, and do your FIRST job, which is tending to those who depend on you, your alertness, your years of training, and your COMPASSION. Or, change jobs and take up BLOGGING for your career!

    1. les says:

what does this have to do with the article !!!!!!! ????????

  20. les says:

these should also be banned in all public buildings

  21. Aaron R. says:

Oh wait I get it: So they can’t tell you WHAT to wear… BUTTT, they can tell you HOW to wear it. I see. Thanks for doing all the thinking for me Fort Worth, Texas. I’d further like to congratulate the great city of Fort Worth for it being promoted to “cities I’d never live in.” Now ranked with Kansas City, (pretty much any city in florida), and Pineville, West Virginia. Just remember who won the civil war, people… that’s right, the North. you know the more level headed people… And good thing too… As it turns out, slavery and telling others what to do isn’t such a good thing.

Maybe the responsible thing to do is not condoning such ridiculousness. Stories like this only make me realize how far, we as country, haven’t progressed. Japan, not that far away, is dying from nuclear radiation. We have nuclear reactors here in the US, folks… Earthquakes, like the 9.0 that rocked Japan, is very possible.

So I pose the question… How can you look at this story seriously while other more troubling questions face the US rite now?

The bottom line behind all this, is that: You’re making a law based on something that hurts no one! it’s not like driving too fast, or verbally assaulting someone by calling them a ‘f-face.’ It’s clothes. It’s that simple. point and end of discussion. I don’t think anyone has the rite to tell you how to wear your clothes. Should I get offended that a girl wear a really low v-neck and her cans are popping out? NO!!! It”s none of my business… is that lovely, big breasted woman harming anyone??? NO!!!!

I’m not making an argument for or against pant-sagging and whether or not it should be legal/illegal on a bus. All I’m saying is that, it’s irresponsible for us, as a country, to sit back and witness this mockery unfold before our eyes. Furthermore, I was terribly disappointed to see that only 3% (which I’m happy to be a part of) who clicked the “Who cares” vote.

I hope you can all appreciate what Fort Worth is doing… they just outlawed “pant-sagging,” folks… Nuclear radiation is a far greater concern… It’s so great that it causes mutations and irreversible health problems (I’m not a doctor and can’t claim that as fact, but it’s fair to say that nuclear radiation isn’t a good thing). I don’t know about you, but when’s the last time you heard your family/friends suggest a nice relaxing day at 3-mile island???

let’s focus on the problems plaguing this nation… I think we should start with Fort Worth, Texas.

  22. Brandi says:

Why does it matter? It’s not like they are your pants and it’s not like it’s their butt hanging out…stupid stupid. That’s right, let’s focus on issues that really DON’T matter. Also, if you don’t like maybe try complimenting them on their choice of undies and that might deter them enough so next time that they’ll pull them up.

  23. Canada-guy91 says:

I don’t understand why people care so much if someone wears his pants like that. People should not be able to tell someone how to dress, like what if the jeans were low-rise jeans and were made to sit below the hip? If a guy chooses to sag his jeans then that is his personal choice. I sag my jeans really low (front and back) to show off my stuff, and I certainly would not appreciate being told too pull up my pants. How would people like it if we told old men to pull down there pants to there hips ?
