DALLAS (AP) - A jury in Dallas is trying to reach a verdict over the 2009 shooting death of a police officer by a resident who says he thought someone was breaking into his apartment.
Deliberations continued Friday in the capital murder trial of Charles Payne.
Sr. Cpl. Norm Smith was fatally shot while trying to serve a warrant on someone else at the residence.
Deliberations began late Wednesday after Payne testified that he did not know police were at his door when he opened fire, thinking he was being robbed. Payne, who could get the death penalty if convicted, called 911 after the shooting.
Prosecutors say Payne knew that Smith was a police officer.
Jurors also deliberated Thursday.
