DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – One of the more prestigious medical research centers in Texas is feeling the pinch of state budget cuts. UT Southwestern Medical Center is laying off 105 employees and eliminating hundreds of positions.
Campus administrators say all of the employees who have been laid off have been notified. An additional 250 positions that are currently vacant will not be filled as well.
UT Southwestern says now that the Texas State Budget has been finalized, the medical campus will see $31 million cut from its yearly state funding. UT Southwestern’s President, Daniel Podolsky said the layoffs were unavoidable.
The Dallas medical campus joins a long list of state universities, school districts and social services facing massive cuts to their budgets.
