DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Are you ready for another round of the Ewing’s? Back in the day, if you said “Dallas” to people anywhere in the world, they would ask you if you knew J.R. Ewing and the family.
The Ewing clan is back and the city of Dallas has been selected as the location to shoot the all-new TNT series.
Officials with the Dallas Film Commission say shooting the television series locally will be a financial boom for the city, with new jobs created and increased tourism. Janice Burklund with the Dallas Film Commission says the announcement helps the city with efforts to get big film projects.
“We had to have ‘Dallas’ here or it’s really hard to argue why, if they don’t shoot ‘Dallas’ here, would you shoot anything else,” said Burklund. “We’ve had a pretty good run here. We had three television series this last season and there’s some others we’re talking to as well.”
The city is spending more than $200,000 to make improvements to a warehouse that will be used as studio space.
TNT has ordered 10 episodes of the show that will start airing next summer.
While the second-generation Dallas will feature a host of new stars in familiar roles, original cast members Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Larry Hagman will also be on the series.
The original Dallas aired from 1978 to 1991.
Fans seemed to be excited about the return of the show. Nearly three-quarters of a million people surveyed in a new Access Hollywood poll say they’re looking forward to going back to Southfork.
