Toddler & Grandfather Die, Found In Dallas Swimming Pool

DALLAS (AP) – Authorities are investigating what appears to be a double drowning in a backyard swimming pool in northwest Dallas.

Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said Thursday that an unresponsive man and his grandson were pulled from the pool shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office identified them as 68-year-old Rolando Pacheco and 2-year-old Ethan Pacheco.

Evans said the two were discovered by the child’s father, who is also the son of the elderly man.

Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be performed later today to determine the exact cause of death.

Very sad and I don’t know what happenned to the grandfather or if he knew how to swim but this points out that no child should be anywhere near a pool without an approved life jacket.

I know this family personally. Im sure this was just a tragic accident. This man in my eyes is a hero. Im sure he died trying to save his grandson. He was great with the baby. May they both rest in peace. I will pray for the Pacheco family to find some kind of peace in such a horrible tragedy.

Such a tragedy My grandson always wears a life jacket, even when there are several of us out there. I myself, don’t swim too well, but I am sure I would try my best to save him, which more than likely would have the outcome that this grandfather had, therefore, always a life jacket. Much sympathy to the family in their terrible loss.

Maybe the grandfather had a medical issue while in the pool with the child. That would explain them both drowning…
