DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – More than 100 women from all over the world are in Dallas for the next two days for the International Dress for Success seminar at the Palomar Hotel.
About half of the women in attendance are delegates, selected by their coordinators in their host cities because they have shown they have leadership potential.
41-year-old Donna Woodfork is representing the DFW area and she says she expects to learn a lot during the conference, despite a number of challenges. Woodfork says she survived two difficult divorces, including abusive husband and she has been diagnosed with an incurable illness; restrictive lung disease.
“Baylor has explained to my parents that my lungs are going to one day not expand at all” says Woodfork. Still the North Texas woman is applying for jobs and hoping to prove she can succeed, despite her illness.
“Even though I don’t have a job, even though I’m broke, even though I don’t even have a pulmonologist to even treat me now, I’m still smiling because I know this weekend is going to be great” says Woodfork.
Executives says the organization tries to help about 50,000 women every year, all who are referred to Dress for Success by a non-profit training organization. “We’re entitled to succeed. And once you have somebody who believes in you, quite frankly you start to believe in yourself” says Joi Gordon, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide.
